As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Windows Movie Maker was a popular video editing software for Windows users. However, Microsoft officially discontinued support for Windows Movie Maker in 2017, and it is no longer available for download or included in Windows operating systems from Windows 8 onward.
If you’re using a version of Windows that does not include Windows Movie Maker, you won’t be able to use it. Instead, you might consider using other video editing software options available for Windows, such as:
- Microsoft Photos (Windows 10 and later): Microsoft has integrated video editing capabilities into the Photos app for Windows 10 and later versions. You can use this app to trim, add text, apply filters, and create basic video projects.
- OpenShot: OpenShot is a free, open-source video editing software available for Windows. It offers a wide range of video editing features and is suitable for both beginners and more advanced users.
- Shotcut: Shotcut is another free, open-source video editing program that is powerful and user-friendly. It supports a wide range of video formats and provides a variety of video and audio editing tools.
- DaVinci Resolve (Free Version): DaVinci Resolve is a professional-grade video editing software that offers a free version with powerful editing and color correction capabilities. It’s suitable for both beginners and professionals.
- Adobe Premiere Pro (Paid): If you’re looking for a professional-grade video editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro is a popular choice. It offers a wide range of advanced editing features but comes with a subscription fee.
If you happen to have an older Windows version with Windows Movie Maker preinstalled, here are the general steps for creating videos with it:
1. Import Your Media:
- Launch Windows Movie Maker.
- Click on “Add videos and photos” to import your video clips, images, and audio files into the software.
2. Arrange Your Media:
- Drag and drop your imported media files into the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
- Arrange them in the desired order.
3. Edit Your Video:
- Trim or split video clips by selecting them and using the editing tools provided.
- Add transitions between clips by selecting “Animations.”
- Add titles, captions, and credits using the “Title” and “Caption” tools.
4. Add Audio:
- Import music or audio tracks and place them on the audio track in the timeline.
- Adjust the audio volume and apply fade-in and fade-out effects as needed.
5. Save and Export:
- Click on the “File” menu and select “Save project” to save your project as a Windows Movie Maker project file.
- To create the final video, click on “File” > “Save movie” and choose a suitable output format and quality.
Please note that the specific features and interface of Windows Movie Maker may vary slightly depending on the version you have (e.g., Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Movie Maker 2012, etc.). If you are using a different video editing software, the general concepts of importing, editing, and exporting will still apply, but the interface and tools may be different.
